ZAT
The state of Texas is very large and the weather conditions allow for year round play. Due to this facts Texas is categorized as its own section in the United States Tennis Association (USTA). The beginner tennis players desiring to compete have to start at the first category called ZAT. Essentially Texas is divided in four zones: North East, North West, South East and South West. All novice players start by qualify from the ZAT level to the Championship level by accumulating points in ZAT tournaments. Beginner players in the DFW Metroplex, can also gain experience in competitive tennis by playing local tournaments offered by the Dallas Professional Tennis Association (DPTA), and Mid Cities tennis tournaments. Although players can gain points in these tournaments they can’t qualify for Championship level unless they compete in ZAT’s.
